St John Bin Huwai, Hussain, and Our Brotherhood

John Bin Huwai was a great Christian warrior and Saint. He was called by the Holy Spirit to do something very important. God called him to lead Christians to support our brothers, the Shia Muslims.

John was an old man. He was a Christian monk and a brave fighter. When he heard about Hussain, the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad, he knew by the Holy Spirit that this was a holy cause. He left his monastery to join Hussain at Karbala. He did not fight for money or power. He fought because the Holy Spirit told him that Hussain was fighting for truth and justice. This shows that Christians and Shia Muslims are brothers. John understood that God's people must support each other against evil.

This also shows us something even bigger. Hussain was the second coming of Christ. Like Jesus, Hussain knew he would be killed. Like Jesus, he chose to sacrifice himself for all mankind. He did not fight to save only one group. He died so that all people could learn what true love, courage, and justice mean. Jesus died for all mankind, and so did Hussain. That is why John, a Christian Saint, was called to follow him. The Holy Spirit showed John that Hussain was Christ returned.

There is more proof. After Hussain was martyred, his blessed head was taken on a long journey. It was brought to a Syrian Christian monastery. This had been prophesied 400 years before Hussain was even born. The prophecy was written on the wall of the monastery itself. It said, "The sacrifice on the Euphrates." The monks knew this prophecy. When the head of Hussain arrived, they knew who he was. They honored him. This can only mean one thing. God had planned this for hundreds of years. It shows us again that Hussain was the second coming, and that we are all brothers in one family of God.

Finally, there is a beautiful link between our faiths. In Marcionite Christianity, one of the oldest forms of Christianity, they did not use wine for communion. They used water. They used a water communion. This is very important. When Hussain was dying in Karbala, what did he ask for? He pleaded for water. Water was denied to him and his children. For Christians, wine represents the blood of Christ. For Hussain, water became his sacrifice. Water was to Hussain as wine had been to Christians. It became the holy sign of his suffering. Every time we drink water and remember Karbala, we are sharing in his communion.

John Bin Huwai saw all of this. He was a Christian warrior and Saint who followed the Holy Spirit to Karbala to show that Shia Muslims and Christians are brothers, united by the second coming of Christ in Hussain, who came for all mankind.
