Why are you here?
In these times of Christian fundamentalism and heretical Christian zionism is there a place for cultural Christianity?
At a recent Bible study at my local church I was in an argument that went like this.
I pointed out what was a clear contradiction between the old testament and new testament and was immediately being criticized for not trusting the eternal word the Bible, so I replied that I do not at all believe the bible is the perfect word of God infact I stated that I think the old testament is basically Babylonian revisionist history and the new testament was in fact a plagiarism of Marcions canon. Of course then I am attacked as a heretic, so be it, but in a church that doesn't officially take the Bible literally I felt surprised by the fundys push back. I was definitely the lone one in the room with the gaul to dispute the canon, but then I mentioned that I am not here because I love the Bible but because I love God Jesus! That shocked some because they don't understand that you don't even need the old testament at all to have a relationship with Christ. Then I asked about cultural Christians those who love God Jesus and accept what Christianity has done for western civilization? Aren't they welcome here? Don't they need a place for Christmas and Easter if they see fit? Apart from the dogmas and creeds the heart determines.
If there is no room for cultural Christians there's no future for Christianity. This is the result of the amalgamation we call the Bible. It's been so manipulated to keep people confused.
But "the truth shall set you free." - Jesus (supposedly)
